New Coffee Table Book: “Radiance Of IIT Kharagpur”

Shyamal Roy (1965 ME NH) was commissioned by IIT Kharagpur to produce a 2nd photo book as part of the on-going diamond jubilee celebration. The new book, titled “Radiance of IIT Kharagpur – 60 Years Making a Difference“, is now going to press.

This new coffee table book is about how IIT Kharagpur alums have impacted humanity all over the world. This is a must-have book for all IIT Kharagpur alums to share with family and friends.

Besides printing the number of books ordered by IIT Kharagpur, Shyamal is now taking pre-orders directly to include in the first print run.

Harish Hande (1990 EY NH) Wins 2011 Magsaysay Award

Harish Hande (1990 EY NH) wins the 2011 Magsaysay Award for his work on solar technology. As reported by the Economic Times:

Harish Hande was recognized for “his passionate and pragmatic efforts to putsolar power technology in the hands of the poor, through a social enterprise that brings customized, affordable, and sustainable electricity to India’s vast rural populace, encouraging the poor to become asset creators”

Harish Hande is the Managing Director of SELCO India.

Ranjit Dhar (1957 Arch.) awarded Order of da Vinci

The IIT Foundation is pleased to note that our very own, Ranjit Dhar (1957 Arch.), has received the 2011 Order of da Vinci award from the Ontario Association of Architects.

This award is given for Recognizing architects who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in the profession, in education, and/or in the community.

Most recently, Ranjit has been the 2009-2010 president of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC).

HCL Founder Shiv Nadar to head the board of IIT Kharagpur

Reports the Economic Times:

Shiv Nadar, founder of software major HCL, was appointed the chairman of the board of governors of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, a statement from the company said Thursday.

The HCL founder takes over the chairmanship from B. Muthuraman, vice chairman of Tata Steel. He now increasingly spends his time on the philanthropic initiatives of the not-for-profit Shiv Nadar Foundation.

Former chairpersons of IIT-Kharagpur include former West Bengal chief minister B.C. Roy, former chairman and managing director of Tata Steel Russi Mody, chairman emeritus of Ballarpur Industries Ltd. L.M. Thapar, and chairman emeritus of RPG Group R.P. Goenka.

planning to have a vigil in memory of Dr. Divyendu Sinha who died
after being brutally assaulted by five teenagers, while taking a
late night stroll with his family on June 25, 2010. The vigil
