IIT Foundation Leadership Meeting Report

Better late than never. This is a report from a IIT Foundation “Leadership Meeting” we had in February 2005, in the San Francisco Bay area. Several alumni and several members of the IIT Kharagpur faculty were present. Here is a report sent in by Partha Chatterjee (1987 CS RK):

Rendezvous for renaissance!

Much like washing Lenin’s linens at Leningrad (an oft-repeated JAM topic), a motley crew of alumni from all over the world met in Stanford – to clean up our act, make IIT better and brighter for the next generation of students. It is not to say that IIT is in dire straits; but, we all put our collective heads together and like brothers in arms, wanted to make tangible progress for the future.

Passion for IIT and Vision for the future drove the leadership meeting in February, 2005. The picturesque Stanford University with its name for pioneering research provided an idyllic background.

Director Shishir K. Dube, Dean Madhu Chakraborty, Prof. Amit Patra were our distinguished visitors from IIT. R. Gopalakrishnan, top executive from Tata, who is now handling the IIT branding arena, also made it all the way from India. There were 26 distinguished alumni from all parts of United States.

The one-day meeting was marked by enthusiasm, education and most importantly, urgency to get things done. Please visit the website archive to get a feel of where IIIT stands now, where it wants to go and most importantly, how you can help. Let’s get involved – make IIT a better place for the next group of students to live, learn and flourish!
