IITians form political party in India

Five IITians have formed a new political party in India, Paritrana:

"Giving up handsome pay packages, comfort of family and support of friends wasn’t that easy," says Tanmay Rajpurohit, the national president of the party and B Tech in aerospace from IIT Bombay followed by an MS from GeorgiaTech and double masters in arts.
"But my inner voice told me that I should invest my efforts in my country rather than making my pockets heavier," said Ajit Ashwalayan Shukla, vice president of the party.

"People think we are crazy so much so that our families have also failed to
understand our motto, but we won’t give up," he added.
The core team of "Paritrana" comprises Rajpurohit , Shukla, Amit Beesen, also the vice president and a B Tech (Mechanical) from IIT Bombay and a LLB graduate, Chandrashekhar (national treasurer), B Tech (computer science) from IIT Kanpur, Bharat Sundaram, the PRO of the party and B Tech from IIT Kanpur and PhD in electronics from Melbourne.

Advanced VLSI Laboratory, IIT Kharagpur

Advanced VLSI Design Laboratory, IIT KharagpurThis year we will try our best to keep everyone abreast of what is happening at IIT Kharagpur, especially programs where alumni effort and funds have been deployed . The first in this series will be a report on the Advanced VLSI (”AVLSI”) Design Laboratory.

The AVLSI Laboratory was one of the first high technology laboratory/research projects that was funded by the IIT Foundation. In the few years of it’s existence, it has already exceeded all expectations and has been an unqualified success.

Alumni Meet at Kharagpur, Jan 7-9

Standing in Registration Line for IIT Kharagpur Alumni MeetThe Scholars Avenue online newsletter has been publishing a slew of articles in recgnition of the recent Alumni meet that was held at Kharagpur.

Here are direct links to some articles:
Alumni Meet Special - 7th Jan, 2006: Inter IIT:

There’s nothing sweeter than victory and IIT Kgp got a taste of it in the most unexpected fashion. The 41st Inter IIT Sports meet saw the oldest IIT crown themselves as the overall Champions of the sporting extravaganza. Team Kgp with 56 points towards the end of the competition were just ahead of Bombay at 52.

The small yet picturesque town of Roorkee hosted the event for the first time, and their recently spruced up sports complex was probably an envy for all. It was lighted up and well flaunted throughout the 8 days of the meet. Kapil Dev, as the Chief Guest was the cynosure of all eyes at the Opening ceremony on the 11th of December. Roorkee won the march past competition, in a field of 7 competitors, and the competition had already begun. The next few days were a whirlwind of activities as the league phase matches started for all the sporting events building up to a crescendo as the final hurdles were conquered on 17th and 18th.

Alumni Meet Special - 7th Jan, 2006: Q&A Avenue:

Scholars’ Avenue team met Mr.Partha Sinha over a cup of tea in cheddis and what followed was an interesting discussion with this Kgp alumnus who looks young for his age and has had a formidable career record. He is the Mumbai head as well as the national strategic planning head of ad-agency Publicis India. An MBA from IIM-A, he has been involved with Citibank, O&M, Rediffusion, Indiainfo.com and with Zee group as its’ marketing head.

Q. Sir, you have been involved with Citibank, O&M, Rediffusion, Indiainfo.com, Zee. Whats next?
A. I haven’t actually thought about it. I like to take life as it comes. So I don’t know whats going to be next on the list. Maybe something of my own. I have been planning to do it for quite sometime now but am undecided on what it will be about. You see I am a quintessential Bong . So its not easy for me to start something on my own.
