IIT Kharagpur Establishes ‘RANBIR AND CHITRA GUPTA SCHOOL OF INFRASTRUCTURE DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT’ - With $1 Million Donation from Ranbir Singh Gupta

On 5th January, 2008, Dr. Damodar Acharya, Director of IIT Kharagpur, and Mr. Ranbir (Ron) Singh Gupta signed a Memorandum of Understanding to set up “RANBIR AND CHITRA GUPTA SCHOOL OF INFRASTRUCTURE DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT.”

The domain of infrastructure design and management has become critically important in recent times and its need is expected to increase manifold with rapid development. This field calls for interdisciplinary expertise from several core engineering, architecture and management branches. A new breed of people trained in this domain and associated research is crucial to sustain the development. IIT Kharagpur, with its strong background in each of the related disciplines, wishes to take an initiative to create this unique academic unit to pursue this area and achieve international level excellence. Mr Ranbir (Ron) Singh Gupta, a 1970 alumnus of the department of architecture of this institute shares that vision and has a keen interest in helping the institute to develop this area and wishes to contribute to its development. Therefore the Institute has decided to set up the ‘Ranbir and Chitra Gupta School of Infrastructure Design and Management’ (or ‘RCG InfraTech’) at IIT Kharagpur to achieve this vision.

PanIIT Entrepreneurship Movement

Dear Entrepreneurs,

Former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam will launch PanIIT’s “Entrepreneurship Movement”. The mission will be launched by simultaneously mentoring 1000 entrepreneurs in 16 different cities of India on one day, Jan 26th, 2008. This program will be conducted in association with TiE (The Indus Enterpreneur) and NEN (National Entrepreneurship Network).

The PanIIT organization was formed as a federal body, covering alumni of all 7 IIT’s, to evolve a brand that would provide strong fraternity among IIT alumni.

Dr. Kalam, while inaugurating the Global event on Dec 23rd 2006, advised IITians to ignite the torch of Entrepreneurship in Indian. He urged IITians to share their experiences and mentor young entrepreneurs so that instead of being “job seekers”, more “job creators” are formed. We are converting his vision into action.

The 16 cities that will be covered are Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi, Guwahati , Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kanpur, Koltata, Mumbai, Patna and Pune.

We are tying up with various media partners – TV channels, Newspapers, Magazines, Websites etc. We expect that the event will have extensive media coverage because of the unique approach.

Mentors include B Muturaman (Tata Steel), Pradeep Baijal (Ex-TRAI), Pramod Chaudari (Praj Industries), R N Khanna (Controls & Switchgear), Saurabh Srivastava (Indian Angel Network), Ashank Desai (Mastech), Pradeep Gupta (CyberMedia) and 200 successful IITians.
