Arvind Kejriwal (1989 NH) has won this the 2006 Ramon Magsaysay Award for “Emergent Leadership”, for his role in fighting corruption and his role as the founder of Parivartan. He was also one of the key figures responsible for the Right To Information act (”RTI”) that was passed by the Govt of India in 2005.

In electing Arvind Kejriwal to receive the 2006 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership, the board of trustees recognizes his activating India’s right-to-information movement at the grassroots, empowering New Delhi’s poorest citizens to fight corruption by holding government accountable to the people.

No doubt a very commendable thing but I don’t think passing “acts” and resolutions helps in any way. A real test of a policy lies in its implementation.

Way to go Kejri. We are all very proud of you. Your efforts and struggle to save the RTI act has also born fruit and millions will be grateful for that as well. The system sucks and we need more like you to set it right.
