About The IIT Foundation

The IIT Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted to enhancing the capability of Indian Institute of Technology ("IIT"), Kharagpur.

This web-site is aimed at providing a networking forum for worldwide alumni of IIT Kharagpur. One of our goals is to create a "world-class" network of IIT Kharagpur alumni.

The main purpose of The IIT Foundation is to raise funds for IIT Kharagpur, primarily from alumni based in the US and Canada. The IIT Foundation is registered as a non-profit organization with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service under section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code. About This Site

All maintenance and software development of this web-site is done by Joyjit Nath. A portion of the site layout design and database design was done pro-bono by MAQ Software, a company run by Rajeev Agarwal. The site runs on Fedora Core, the Apache Webserver with PHP, and the MySQL Database. We host the site on a Virtual Private Server at PowerVPS

History and Mission of the IIT Foundation

The IIT Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted to enhancing the capability of Indian Institute of Technology ("IIT"), Kharagpur.

Its main purpose is to raise funds for IIT Kharagpur, primarily from alumni based in the US and Canada. The IIT Foundation is registered as a non-profit organization with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service under section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code. All contributions to the IIT Foundation are tax-deductible for U.S. taxpayers.

The IIT Foundation was founded in 1992 by Vinod Gupta, a 1967 alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, and the founder of the Vinod Gupta School of Management. In recent years, the IIT Foundation has funded several initiatives at IIT Kharagpur, including:

  • Campus Networking Project: The brainchild of Silicon Valley visionary Dr Suhas Patil, the goal of this project is to provide universal high-speed internet access to all students from their Hall rooms.
  • VLSI Laboratory: The IIT Foundation has underwritten the funding of a state-of-the-art VLSI Laboratory on campus. The funding commitment includes equipment and software, salaries of faculty and staff, as well as visiting faculty teaching a short course each year.
  • Microsoft Visiting Professor: The Microsoft Visiting Professor position was established in 2000, thanks to the generous donations of over eighty IIT alumni who are Microsoft employees.

Executive Committee Members

Mr. Roy DaSilva, President

Roy has been the President of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter for approximately two years and has been active in the alumni network for several years. He has been a driving force in leading several new chapter events. As the President of the SF Bay Area chapter he is also member of the Vision 2020 Fundraising Team, IIT Foundation.

Roy DaSilva is Executive Director, Corporate Services for Epson Electronics America Inc., (EEA) a wholly owned subsidiary of Seiko Epson Corporation, Japan. Prior to assuming responsibility for Human Resources in 2004, Finance in 2003, and I.T in 2002; Roy had Profit and Loss responsibility for the Integrated Circuits Business Unit. Prior to joining EEA, Roy worked at , NEC Electronics Inc. (1986-1997) where he was the Western Area ASIC Business Unit Manager . Roy migrated to the U.S. in 1984, and, worked as a Product Marketing Engineer at Gould AMI (1984 -1985) and later as Product Marketing Manager at National Semiconductor (1986). Between 1976 and 1984, Roy worked in India, in Marketing and Sales, at companies such as Guest Keen Williams Ltd.(Electrical Laminations), ASEA LTD (Electronic Relays and control Panels) and Blow Plast Limited (Electronic Toys).

Roy received his Masters in Management Studies (MMS) Degree from the University of Bombay, in 1976 and a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (B.Tech. Hons.) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He represented RK Hall in Hockey, Water Polo, & Drama and held elected offices to the Hall Council.

Roy has been associated with Industry Organizations such as FSIA, Professional Organizations such as TiE, & SIPA, and Community Organizations such as India Community Center, and Goa Sudharop, many from their inception in Silicon Valley.

It was an honor to serve IIT Kharagpur and IIT Foundation. I encourage each alumni to remember the great times at IIT Kharagpur, the amazing transformation process we went through, the life-long friendships we established, and the impact of IIT Kharagpur brand and experience on our personal and professional lives. Please give back to IIT Kharagpur - get involved with the alumni network, contribute funds, volunteer, use your relationships to open doors for fellow alums and for IIT Kharagpur. Mr. Shailendra ("Shailu") Verma, Treasurer

Shailu is the co-President Chicago Chapter and Treasurer of PanIIT MidWest Chapter.

Shailu is President at Forest One, Inc - a firm he co-founded. Forest One is a leading provider of satellite image processing services and tools for land resource management. He has led Forest One, from its inception to a cash-flow positive growth mode. Prior to starting Forest One, Shailu has worked in Delphi Automotive and McKinsey and Company.

He is a graduate from IIT Kharagpur (1990, MF, AZ), University of Maryland, College Park (1993) and Kellogg Graduate School of Management (2000). He is active in non-profit groups and IIT activities.

Mr. Joseph ("Joe") Sreshta, Secretary

Joe is the founder and one of the active alumni leaders of the Houston Chapter. He is also a member of Vision 2020 team.

He has a Bachelor of Technology, IIT Kharagpur and Master of Science in Engineering, University of Michigan. He is Chartered Life Underwriter, American College and Chartered Financial Consultant, American College.

After completing his Masters Degree, he worked for 10 years in the Offshore Oil Industry. In 1983 he joined the Financial Services Industry. Since 1983, Joe has managed his own business in the Financial Services Industry. He specializes in working with small business owners and physicians, assisting them in wealth creation and wealth protection.

Joe has extensive civic and charitable organization experience: Houston Food Bank - Chair, Development Committee, 2004-2005; Houston Food Bank - Board of Directors; 2002-present, Pratham USA - Board of Directors, 1998-2001, 2004-present; Indo American Charity Foundation - Board of Directors, 2002; South Asian Chamber of Commerce, Houston, Board of Directors - 1999; India Culture Center, Houston, President - 1997; India Culture Center, and Houston, Board of Directors, 1995-1998.
