IIT Foundation Cisco Systems to build State-of-the-art Computer Network at IIT Kharagpur

The IIT Foundation and Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced agreement to build a powerful state-of-the-art campus-wide computer network at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in its Golden Jubilee year. The project, supported by generous contributions from IIT Kharagpur alumni Suhas Patil (1965) and Arjun Malhotra (1970), is aimed at providing high bandwidth universal Internet access and personal computing capability to the entire student body of the Institute. Dr. Patil, a graduate of IIT Kharagpur and a Silicon Valley visionary, said "Connecting every student's dorm room to the Internet will eliminate barriers of distance in an unprecedented manner. We envision that academic programs built around this infrastructure will enhance the teaching of engineering as never before. This gift to our alma mater is a token of our commitment to help IIT attain world-class excellence. We are fortunate to have Professor M.N. Faruqui, our teacher, and currently IIT Foundation Professor at IIT Kharagpur, manage this ambitious project on our behalf."
