IIT Kharagpur is doing some interesting work in the areas of VLSI and CAD jointly with leading organizations in the US such as Intel, Sun Microsystems, Synopsys and Virtio Corp.

Professors Amit Patra and Pallab Dasgupta are currently in the US and we are pleased to invite you to attend a talk on the work they are doing , some recent initiatives and the Golden Jubilee celebrations.

About Prof. Amit Patra

Prof. Amit Patra received the B.Tech., M.Tech. and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Kharagpur in 1984, 1986 and 1990 respectively. He visited the Ruhr-University, Bochum, Germany as a Post-Doctoral Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. He joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT, Kharagpur in 1987 as a faculty member, and is currently an Associate Professor. His research interests include discrete-event and hybrid systems, design of power integrated circuits, fault detection and fault tolerant control.

He has published about 75 research papers and is the co-author of a research monograph entitled General Hybrid Orthogonal Functions and Their Applications in Systems and Control, published by the Springer Verlag in 1996. He has carried out sponsored projects for National Semiconductor Corporation, Indian Space Research Organization, Johnson Controls, Tata Infotech Limited, Naval Science and Technological Laboratory, as well as various Government Agencies in India. He is also one of the founding Directors of the Faculty Entrepreneurship Company Control and Automation Technologies, Systems and Software, registered with the Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Park, at I.I.T. Kharagpur, and engaged in the development of indigeneous technology for industrial automation and laboratories for electrical engineering education.

About Prof. Pallab Dasgupta

Dr. Patra received the Young Engineer Award of the Indian National Academy of Engineering in 1996 and the Young Teachers Career Award from the All India Council for Technical Education in 1995. He has been a Young Associate of the Indian Academy of Sciences. He is a member of IEEE (USA), Institution of Engineers (India) and a life member of the Systems Society of India.

Dr. Pallab Dasgupta did his B.Tech (1990) M.Tech (1992) and Ph.D (1995) from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the same Department.

Dr. Dasgupta currently works in the area of Formal Verification of Hardware and Concurrent Systems. His group is funded by several companies, including, Intel, Sun Microsystems, Synopsys and Virtio Corp. He also works in the areas of Automated Problem Solving (Search and Deduction) and Distributed Algorithms.

Dr. Dasgupta is a recipient of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) Young Scientist Medal, and is an Associate Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences.
