Inter IIT Grand Picnic and sports meet

Note: Because of the pan-IIT picnic, there will not be an IIT KGP alumni picnic this year.

Cricket Update: IIT KGP has won the cricket playoffs and are now in the Semifinals. The Semifinals and the Final will be held on day of the picnic. Come cheer for your home team!!!

Cost: $13.00 per adult and children older than 13.
$7.00 per child, 3-13 years old.
Food and soft drinks included.

The time for the battle (Inter IIT Sports Meet) draws near. It's time we measure who still is the best on the field and where the rubber hits the ground.

Inter IIT Sports will consist of Cricket, Volleyball, Tug-O-War, Bridge and a few more. Check out details and rules on http://www.iit.org/sfbay .

There will be a Grand Picnic, lots of fun for Kids, Spouses games, General games, Big time Mela ...

Agenda for Picnic (August 2nd 2003):

  • 11:00 - Registration and collection of FOOD TICKETS
  • 11:30 - Games Begin
  • 12:00 - Cricket Final
  • 13:15 - Lunch
  • 14:00 - Other Games:
    • IITians: Volleyball, Tug of War
    • Children: Painting competition, Sack & Spoon Race, Magic show, Jumping Jim etc.
    • Spouses: Musical Chairs, Dumb Charade, etc
    • For All: Tombola
  • 16:00 - Cleanup and windup

Do you play Volley ball?
Have you been the part of the Inter-IIT team?
Now is your chance.. ! Enroll yourself to be a part of the IIT KGP local volley ball team. This team would be playing against other IITs in the picnic.

Write to: Delip Andra, the volley ball coordinator for Bay Area or to Pankaj Joshi, the team captain.

Cricket

Come and join the KGP cricket team to play against the other IITs in the upcoming Pan-IIT picnic. Please contact Ketan Babaria, the cricket coordinator, or Arup Gupta, the team captain.
Cricket Rules - Make sure you read this:
  • Six people a side including the wicket keeper
  • Each team gets 5 (6-ball) overs
  • Each person gets a maximum of 1 over to bowl
  • A batsman retires after scoring 30 runs (can come back later to play if all other batsmen are out or retired)
  • A four is worth 6 runs
  • A sixer is worth 10 runs
  • A no-ball or a wide ball is worth 2 runs and an extra ball
Tournament Format (assuming that 7 teams participate):
  • Divide the teams into Group A and Group B by a draw of lots
  • Each team within a group plays 2 games each as shown below
  • A win is worth 2 points, a tie is worth 1 point and a loss is worth 0 points
  • The team with maximum points in each group wins the group
  • In case of a tie the team which won the game between the tiers gets a higher position
  • In case of a circular tie, the tie is broken on the bases of run rate
  • Winner of Group A plays runner of group B and Winner of group B plays runner up of group A in the semis.
  • The winner of the finals wins the championship
  • In case of a tie in the final the trophy is shared

  • IIT Kanpur vs IIT KGP
  • IIT KGP vs IIT Roorkee
  • IIT Roorkee vs IIT Kanpur
