As part of our service to the alumni of IIT Kharagpur, we offer several useful features such as the following:

• Viewing of detailed information about other registered alumni.
• Message boards with focused content, such as Job Openings and Looking For.

These features are available to you only if you Sign In.
Additionally, by Signing In, you can update your profile information that is currently stored in the alumni directory.

We maintain this website as a service for alumni of IIT Kharagpur. We have several "alumni-only" features on this web site, which are accessible to you only if you register:

Registering is quite simple (especially for someone who graduated from IIT). You visit the Registration Page, fill-in all the data about yourself and then click on "Register" at the bottom.

For your name to show up in our alumni directory, you need to register. Please visit the Registration Page, fill-in all the data about yourself and then click on "Register" at the bottom.

Please choose Update Profile if you want to make changes. Please note that you will need to Sign In before you can Update your profile. If you have forgotten your User-ID or your Password, please visit the Password Recovery page.

Thank you for catching this error. Only the "owner" of the profile (in this case, your friend) has the authority to change information about himself/herself. Please notify your friend about this problem and urge him/her to correct this error.

If you want to change your User-ID, please choose Change User-ID. If you want to change your Password, please choose Change Password.

We take all reasonable steps to keep access to this data restricted to only authorized people.

• We never sell this data to anybody.
  
• Only the very basic information about you is available to the general user from our Alumni Directory.
  
• The detailed contact information about you is available only to registered alumni of IIT Kharagpur. You have the option to restrict even that.
• Your e-mail address is always kept private, through the use of our "Send Email to Alumni" feature.

The "Password Question" is designed to help you recover your password if you forget it. You should choose a question the answer to which is known only to you. If you then forget your password, you will be asked for the answer to your "Password Question" -- if the answer is correct, then you get an opportunity to set a new password and continue with the Sign In process.
You can change your "Password Question" at any time once you Sign In.

Some of the message boards are Moderated ones. If this is the case, the message will only appear after the moderator(s) have "Approved" your posting. The moderator(s) also have the right to "Disapprove" or "Delete" your posting if the posting violates the guidelines for that message boards. (For example: The Job Openings message board does not allow postings by recruiters, or postings without sufficienta detail.)
If your postings do not appear on an Un-moderated message boards, please contact webmaster@iitfoundation.org, providing full details about the problem.

If you notice your chapter information is incorrect and/or is missing, please contact webmaster@iitfoundation.org, and we will be glad to update the page with the correct information.

We offer the services on this web-site as a benefit to IIT Kharagpur alumni. In order to provide better and focused services, we felt the need to restrict this message board to registered alumni only. Yes, this will reduce the number of job openings posted on this board. At the same time however, it will also increase the quality and focus of the jobs posted here. If you want to take a look at jobs in general (not neccessarily posted by IITians), there are many other web-sites around which have hundreds of job-postings.

• We send out alumni event announcements on a regular basis to all registered members. We need your address so we can send you announcement about events in your local area.
• Filling-in correct address information helps other registered alumni to locate you.
• (If you are USA or Canada based) From time to time, we also send out a booklet version ("roster") of our directory containing contact information of all the North America based alumni. A correct mailing address is essential for this.

If you want to keep your contact information private even from fellow alumni, you can choose the "Keep my information private" on the "Register" or "Update Profile" form.

If you are organizing an alumni event which you would like us to publicize, please send an email message to webmaster@iitfoundation.org.

But before you do that, here are some guidelines:

1. We do not broadcast or publicize events which do not have a direct connection to IIT Kharagpur or its Alumni or IITs in general.
2. We sometimes make region-specific event announcements, sometimes we make global announcements. We usually decide which way to go depending on the number and frequency of other events that are happening around the world. For instance, if there are 5-6 alumni events happening all over the world in the next two weeks along with your event, we will not send out 5-6 separate announcements. Instead, we will send out only one message, with information about each event. See point no. 6 to understand why.
3. We keep our email broadcast messages short and to the point. We strongly prefer to list only the key information in the email message. The details usually point to a website.
4. If your alumni chapter has a website, we prefer to advertise a link to that page. If your alumni chapter does not have a site, we are happy to host the pages. In the latter case, please send us the content to be hosted in plain text format.
5. Contrary to popular belief, we do not have an army of workers waiting to process your event announcements. This takes time. You will be much better off if you allow us a lead time of 7-days. So, prepare early and send us the announcement as early as you can.
6. We try extremely hard to keep the frequency of email broadcasts low. (max. 1-2 per week). See point no. 2. Since our broadcasts go out to thousands of folks, we do not want to create unnecessary noise, filling up email inboxes.

Here are some of our guidelines for organizing alumni events:

• Plan EARLY. We cannot stress this point enough. Plan events at least two months ahead.
• Notify webmaster@iitfoundation.org about your event, so we can help publicize your event. Note that we need some time before we can send your broadcast out, so give us plenty of time.
• In addition, it is indeed a good idea to make phone calls to local alumni. You can browse the alumni directory, search by State name or City name, and look up the phone numbers.
• Have some incentive for folks to respond early. (i.e. something like "The cost for attending the alumni picnic is $10 per person if you send in your payment by June 15th. Otherwise, the cost is $15 per person"). Without this incentive, it is difficult, if not impossible, to know in advance how many people will attend your event.

You can do this in two ways:

• Visit the Directory Statistics Page.
• Click on any one of the links under Hall, Graduation Year, Department etc.
• Once the search results are displayed, you can further re-group the results by clicking on the column headings.

or,

• Visit the Directory.
• Select either the hall or graduation year or department and choose Submit.
• Once the search results are displayed, you can further re-group the results by clicking on the column headings.

You can similarly check for alumni living in your area (works reliably for states in USA and India. With other countries, you are better off searching by country name.).
