OPEN IIT/INTER-HALL/MISC

Student activities are continual around the year in the
form of inter-hall, intra-hall, open IIT events.
These are meant to keep us busy when
we don't study - which is almost all the time.
Participation and enthusiasm associated with these events
are high as Kharagpur offers us few other places for solace.
The fall semester features the open IIT events, which
are used to select teams to represent the Institute
in sports and cultural events. Open IIT cultural events culminate
in our magnum opus 'The Spring-fest'.
The Spring semester features the intra-hall events which
form a basis for the team selection for the Inter-Hall events.
Inter-Hall events pit the best talent from each hall
to win pride and glory for the hall. At stake are the
Sports General Championship (GC) and the Soc-Cult GC.
Hall jingoism is
at the peak at this time of the year and no opportunity
is lost to display ones superiority over the other
(Student shows in Netaji are the best entertainment
during this time).
Most victories are marked by a VP. (Even though I could be crucified
for saying this, I should add, "most victories
by men". However, in retraction I might add that
there was atleast one VP by SN hall in my memory. They tried
to enter Patel Hall....need I say more ?)

Lacking a proper music room,
practice sessions were held outside the common room in those days
(spring 1991).Recently, the small mess has been turned into a music room.

This was a special occasion, when it had rained the whole day
and we got to play our own version of water polo.
